DescriptionHere's the framed version of Prince Valiant from December 17, 1944 along with the Medieval Castle of the same day, which ran beneath Prince Valiant from April 23, 1944 - November 18, 1945. I'm also posting higher-res images of each of them so you can really zoom in and enjoy.IMO, this is about as pretty as it gets for Prince Valiant - big, bold imagery with striking inks and dynamic use of light and shade to create depth and mood. Wow. In a house with all girls, I'm not sure how long this one is going to last on my office wall. I'm fairly certain princes dragging queens around by their hair is not exactly condoned these days. Exquisite presentation for exquisite works of art. I bought the Fantagraphics reprints many years ago, and still enjoy going through them from time to time. I can only imagine how amazing this original looks in person. What a tremendous pleasure and privilege it must be to have this hanging on your wall.

Gotta admit, panel 2 might've made me think long and hard about whether I wanted this to be my Prince Valiant example, but the artistry is on an entire other level and I'm glad I get to enjoy it vicariously through YOUR collection!

Glorious! Either one would have presented well on their own, but of course, very gratifying to have both from the same date. Congrats, Chris!

I sometimes have mixed feelings about Foster's Prince Valiant. He was always nothing less than a master and his every line was meticulously perfect, but, to me, the strip was more a series of illustrations like those in a book than it was sequential art. Sometimes, as good and as admirable as the art was, his art could sometimes seem static and leave me feeling cold. On the other hand, when the pictures were this good, I'd just fall in love with each panel. Cheers!

"In a house with all girls . . ." Forget about the image. The women are coming for you just for your use of the g-word.

Absolutely Stunning. I wouldn't worry about the girls, looking at the next pages, as Val is holding Aleta and then defending her. You have it all.

This is tremendous. Every panel is perfect, and I love the balance of light and dark across the full display of both pieces. The lines, faces, costumes, settings, staging, and shadows are just wonderful. So beautifully presented as well!

Be a good squire of Prince Valiant and defend your treasure/artwork against any danger!

Stellar example, congrats! I particularly like that dark moody last panel on the main sequence . . . and Medieval Castle is an added bonus (win/win).

A key scene from a legendary series! The expression of sheer madness in Val's eyes is so incredibly contrasting with Aleta's serenity against all odds...
