DescriptionA terrific example from Al Williamson’s incredible 1967-1979 run on Secret Agent Corrigan. Williamson’s most notable works historically include his science fiction and fantasy art for EC Comics in the 1950s. While working on Weird Science Fantasy #25 (Sept 1954), Williamson would ink an adaptation of a Ray Bradbury story, ‘A Sound of Thunder’. The story is set in 2055 and time travel is a reality. A company called Time Safari, Inc. offers wealthy adventurers the chance to travel back in time to hunt extinct species such as dinosaurs. It was an early Williamson effort on combining modern men & machinery with dinosaurs…and he was obviously pretty good at it.The story this strip was taken from is considered an homage to the ‘Lost World’, a 1960 fantasy adventure film loosely based on the novel of the same name by Arthur Conan Doyle. The plot of the film revolves around the exploration of a flat mountain in Venezuela inhabited by, among other things, dinosaurs, carnivorous plants, and giant spiders. To top it all off, this one is signed by Al to a friend of his – my friend, Wally Harrington! Social/Sharing |

It feels like we've entered a distinct third phase in your collecting...and as always, I look forward to every update. Always an interesting choice. Fantastic Williamson example.

Fantastic! Great panel with the dinosaur, swamp... pure Williamson. It seemed to me that Corrigan was the perfect vehicle for Al. The two Als could do whatever they wanted. Let's do a sci-fi, let's do a western, let's do a crime story... it all fit in to the world of X-9.
