DescriptionBilly must have been proud of this story as he varnished all the pages and affixed a gallery-style credit strip to the bottom of the splash. It's also signed and documented two more times on the back. It's a monstrously over-sized page for 1970, comparable to the size of a Prince Valiant original. Graham started his comics career late, in his thirties, with a story in Vampirella 1. Jim Warren quickly made him Warren's Art Director. This is one of Graham's last stories from his two year stint at Warren, which I think includes some of his best stuff. After this, he went straight to Marvel to ink Hero for Hire #1, and become the first Black artist to work on Marvel's first black solo books, featuring Luke Cage and Black Panther.Social/Sharing |

At first glance, the art seems wild and crazy, exploding with energy in all directions, but then I noticed how the large image of Sorik keeps everything centered and I began to see the method to the madness. One thing is for sure, his Marvel work is sedate in comparison.
