DescriptionCollecting goal achieved!I'd been stalking this page since it last appeared on Heritage about 10 years ago, and long before I had the means to get it. It's the first half of a spread I held up in my one personal encounter with Jack Kirby back in 1989. About two years ago I came across the second half of that spread and thought that was the closest I'd ever get to recreating the photo. It's funny, in the actual issue of Thor 171, pages 1 & 2 don't appear as facing-pages, but because I had a reprint trade with me when I met Jack, I've always thought of these pages as linked. I passed on more affordable, and arguably more interesting, Kirby pages in this auction because it felt like the cypher needed to be completed. Does anyone know anything about the Judy Ann Taylor/Roman messages Everett was putting al over this run of Thor?? The "Forbush Building" is also a nice touch. I'm psyched to have this. I will probably not buy any more comic art for a while. The Wrath of the Wrecker! Thor 171 Bill Everett over Jack Kirby 1969 Social/Sharing |

Thank you, Ron!
I've drooled over your Wrecker splash for a while now (not to mention literally everything else in your collection).

Major congrats, John! As a fan who also has a decades-long collecting goal of reuniting an Everett-inked sequence that I've loved since childhood, I applaud your success in making this happen. FWIW, I think the auction price for this Kirby/Everett splash was reasonable, and it's great to see the page coming home to the collection that loves it. It's true that every time a comic art collector acquires a long sought grail, you hear a bell, and an angel gets his wings.

Thanks Drake! FWIW, one person's "reasonable" is another's "anxiety induced chronic insomnia."
Haha, but still, no regrets.

Thanks Len. I wish I'd been old enough for it to occur to me to buy some art off him!

I think I was 28, in the late 80's when we started visiting the Kirby's and buying art.
I was wondering, if you only met him once, how did u get the picture signed?

Roz snapped the photo, and then about a month later he sent me a package with the photo, a note, and a Captain Victory lithograph and blew my little mind. Has there been anyone better than Jack Kirby!??!

Mark, seems like you are very knowledgable about Bill Everett. Any idea on the "Judy Ann Taylor/Roman" meaning on all of these Thor issues?

Your posting piqued my interest so I asked the best expert - Wendy Everett. Her gracious response:
...Several years after my mother died, my father had a relationship with a woman named Judy Roman (Taylor may have been her maiden name – she was divorced with younger children) ...mystery solved!
