DescriptionAvengers #164,#165 and #166 have always been special and nostalgic issues to me and many other Avengers fans--primarily for both John Byrne's great guest stint as penciller (with nice inks by Pablo Marcos) and the dynamic storyline of a super-powerful Count Nefaria, including a number of memorable (and powerful) panels/pages.For whatever reason, I never really thought about collecting art from these issues but then last year I changed my mind. After some wheeling and dealing, I was lucky enough to acquire this page, which was actually my first preference as a page focusing on Iron Man from the story. This storyline had some great sub-plots too so it was an added bonus getting that cool last Wonder Man panel too as his was a noteworthy sub-plot. (This acquisition is in line with my collecting mentality these days of looking for selective "prime" representative pieces.) Social/Sharing |

What a dramatic, hard-hitting page from one of the greatest Avengers stories ever. I love the self-doubting Wonder Man in the final panel. Congrats on a super-memorable piece of art!

Fantastic Avengers page with incredible Iron Man panels! Byrne adds the dynamic action and details that he’s known for!

Esquire Domina, this is truly an incredible acquisition. However, I must appeal to your legal background. While this may be page 15 in the storlyline without adverts, it is actually page 27 in the published version as identified in the top right. I own the the page 15 as identified by the published version, and I respectfully request that you change your titlle to page 27 so that other aficionados do not have confusion. I humbly appeal to your legal sensibilities. Also, I own the page just previous to this one.
With regards to this three issue arc where I have commented on other CAF owner's posts, Shooter's take on the Avengers was incredible. He brought a lot of self-awarenes and self-doubt within the team that was refreshing with his writing. Was it any more different than other Marvel writers at the time? Not really, as Claremont, Conway, and Engelhart were doing the same with the new, uncanny X-Men, ASM, and Captain America, respectively. However, his focus on Wonder Man from issue 160 to 168 (sans 163) was rather intriguing since he was the 'second' strongest Avenger behind Thor. Along with the artwork from Byrne and Marcos, Shooter's writing for Avengers 164-166 stands, and will always stand, the test of time for incredible storytelling.

:) no problem - fixed it. Thanks.
I agree - the compelling storyline and great art still hold up after all those years.

Outstanding page! Count me in the camp that thinks that pages should be numbered/labeled as if without ads, though!

Terrific page! Always been a fan of Pablo's, both as an inker AND a penciller. He did a very solid job on Byrne's pencils here, and Perez too on his run. Congrats on this gem of a page!

So glad this worked out so we were both thrilled with the end result. I loved this page but the page I ended with was my 2nd favorite page from the 3 issue run.

Always loved Byrne's Iron Man, Marcos was a good inker over Byrne's pencils, the Avengers 164-166 run is a classic!
