DescriptionNice late 80s Iron Man cover by Jackson Guice and Bob Layton. Debut of a new Iron Man armor (technically the Mark VIII) replacing the Silver Centurion armor destroyed in dramatic fashion the prior issue by the villain Firepower.I like covers and splashes which show the first time for a new armor and this one's got Tony Stark too. During these days, it was a big deal when a new armor was launched (not like much later where every new creative team or storyline made a new armor - some hits, many misses (the "Ablative Space Armor"? Ugh). Social/Sharing |

I saw this cover for the first time in 1990 (in Italy the stories of the Marvel characters were published at least two years later than in the U.S.A.).
I bought the comic because seeing this new version of the red / gold armor intrigued me a lot.
It has since become my favorite armor.
Fantastic cover in a fantastic collection my friend😉

Great cover from a great run! Loved the Guice/Layton combo! And totally agree with you, really nice being able to see both the suit AND the man! Congrats on this superb acquisition.

Guice and Layton certainly made for a fully gleaming new armor an event in itself! Guice's clean and detailed style had were rocking it in the late 80's and Layton's inking made it slick and shiny like a new car!

Great piece of art and a key cover in it being the return to the red and gold! The Silver Centurion is my favorite so I was sad to see it go but this armor killed, too. Love how the chains are going over the title lettering here. Congrats!

What an incredible piece of Iron Man history!
As a kid, I HATED this cover for spoiling that Tony survived and what the new armor looked like- so much so that I had Mark Bright draw a whole new cover for it, based on his #200 layout!
Still... I'd trade a pinkie for this cover!
