DescriptionFrom an art perspective, Marvel Age covers are likely underrated.Marvel Age was a promotional comic book-sized magazine that was published from 1983 to 1994 with 140 issues plus some specials/annuals. It had various regular features, including images from, and interviews with writers and artists about, Marvel's upcoming projects. While some of the Marvel Age covers showed images from the upcoming comics, many covers were all original images specially commissioned by Marvel. And many of those were really done well by Marvel's top artists at the time. This example is a great, hyper-detailed 1992 cover by John Romita, Jr. in celebration of the 30th anniversary of Iron Man. This cover was done at the tail end of JRJR's second run on the main Iron Man title (or right after) and reflects the bigger, bolder style that he had moved to at that time. Social/Sharing |

Meticulous work by Romita Jr and Dan Green. It perfectly conveys the duality of machine and man that the concept of Iron Man is based upon. This has enough detail to satisfy even those who didn't like JRJR's art on this title.

Agree on all counts with your write-up, Marvel Age was a great mag and essential reading to this young marvel zombie in the 80s-early 90s; and it had some incredible cover art by Marvel's biggest artists! This JRJR Iron Man piece is up there with the best of the series; and while this might be sacrilegious to say, I actually prefer JRJR's art during his second run on Iron Man--it was less of a house-style and more personal to JRJR's point of view. Big Congrats!

Classic. I always wondered how IM walked in boots that are so gigantic. Maybe he never did...just jetted everywhere.

Iron Man looks great but love the design and detail of the circuitry in the background! Next level stuff. Congrats!

Don't know how I missed this one, but damn, that's a phenomenal cover! I love the whole design. The background image of Tony Stark with half of his face hidden by the circuitry of the Iron Man armor is briliant! And then on top of that you've got a classic inflight Iron Man image which is one of those things John Romita Jr is soooo good at. Gorgeous inks by Dan Green as well. I've always thought Dan Green was one of JrJr's best inkers. Anyway, it's a stunner of a cover, IHMO. Huge congrats!

Really impressive cover by one of IM's greatest artists ever. You really kept this one for yourself for quite a time and I miss it "a little" :) Amazing detail work and there are not many covers with both Tony and his alter ego in armour. A true gem in your superb collection !
