DescriptionIron Man #100. I'm very happy to own this. To me, it's Amazing, Iconic.A personal favorite. A memorable and milestone cover. Great art and design by Starlin, including a unique background highlighting the milestone. Even the logo feels like it's part of the art and not just a title. Most importantly, a singularly powerful, expressive, serious image of Iron Man with a masterful metallic look. Hard to show expression in a man in armor but Starlin does a great job using detail, posture, a subtle head tilt and expressive eyes, among other effects. From solely a story perspective this is not very much of a historic cover-- the story inside though was one that had been building for half a year--a showdown with the Mandarin that a kid could really look forward to. To me it is just a great cover and from an artistic perspective, I think one of the most memorable Iron Man covers in the entire run. At the time, although I could not have articulated it well, this cover stood out to me as also signaling a future vision of a more mature version of the character (ultimately foreshadowing the more modern look of the great Romita Jr./Layton run). A "grail" piece probably means slightly different things to different people but this piece may be as close to it for me as any other piece I do own or could own. I'm also pleased to own the page 1 splash and the endpage for this issue. Social/Sharing |

I love anniversary covers where the issue number is incorporated into the cover scene itself. Or covers where the title logo is being smashed. Regardless, just an amazing cover and you have a re-donk-culous collection my friend!!!!

Why have I never seen this? And I don't just mean the original art, I'm certain I've never seen Iron Man #100. I owned #1, 2, 3, 50 and a bunch more, but I do not remember ever seeing #100. That is insane, but this piece is beautiful.
