DescriptionEvery auction, I wishfully think to myself, I'd love to get a J Scott Campbell cover, so I put tracking bids on them to see if I have a chance. Well, inevitably, once we get to the end of the auction, reality sets in and I'm blown out of the water.I do, however, ready myself for this reality. Well, in this case I was watching this piece and thought to myself, self, as long as this piece is within reach I'll take a swing... The countdown begins...10...9...8...I throw in my hail mary...and...I WON! I am instantly filled with the two most common emotions in this hobby: EXCITEMENT followed by STRESS. I knew what pieces I could part with and made it happen. I love the Aspen company' pencils only approach (no inker) as it really shows off Campbell's beautify Michael Turner like line. It is also a page filler. I'm very happy with this one. This was used for the 2008 Vol.3 Variant and the 2019 Vol.8 Customer Appreciation Variant (Recolored). Unfortunately the only thing missing is the Stan Lee signature across her face ;) Social/Sharing |

Campbell's pure pencils are held in high regard from this era. It is kind of rare to see him tackle Aspen, but Turner did pass away in June 2008 and this might have been dedicated to him a month after if "Comic-con" written on this means SDCC.

That is so gorgeous! And I like the original art a lot better than the published colored versions. I can see how they were trying to capture the look of her arms being underwater, but the result is just weird. The pencils are perfect. Great addition!!

Had to check what this ended at (all the Campbell covers I track go for a pretty penny), so congrats on the win!!! You've got a great image of Fathom, plus some cool water effects beneath the surface, so there are some interesting things going on here.

I LOL'd at the Stan Lee signature joke. Congrats on this fantastic addition to your collection... and if you ever need to raise money in the future... I'd love a crack at one of your Damion Scott pieces.

Haha. I was wondering that joke would land. I did put a couple of Damion Scott pages in the next Comic Link auction. One is really gritty, one is very clean.

Sweet! Thanks for the heads up. If I don't win, you'll at least see a fair price for them with me as the underbidder.

Hahah. Nice reference, but in our hobby it's referred to as
the "Doug Pflueger". ;)
