Description

Gallery piece
Cast bronze with a custom patina finish on a black granite base. The patina is done using Bismuth Nitrate and Ferric Nitrate and a blowtorch. Then sprayed with lacquer and paste wax, then dry brushed with cordovan paste wax to give it a warm value.
22" X 12.5" X 6"

“An Age Of Innocence” cast bronze on black granite #3/10
Shipping out today with this fresh new patina. Over the years I have heard from many that this piece is very heavy (emotionally) and brings a feeling of darkness; they’re correct. This sculpture is meant to invoke unease and give the viewer a feeling of uncertainty. A quick background: in 2000 I remember sitting in a classroom at Loveland High School while we all watched the events unfold during the Columbine High School massacre. This weighed heavy on my consciousness and embedded a fear of “kids with guns” into my unconsciousness. Kids can be mean to each other, no doubt, but when a murderous rage can overcome a child/teen and they act on it, that is pure insanity. Now, it seems like there is a school shooting once a month and it truly makes my heart sink. I often wonder how today’s youth can become so disconnected with reality that murder is an option and this thought takes me down a dark rabbit hole that I don’t really want to explore. BUT, I have explored this rabbit hole and this sculpture is the result. This sculpture is a reflection of childlike innocence being rapidly taken away by today’s desensitized society.
