DescriptionA splendid (if I can say so myself) commission of the Shade by Peter Snejbjerg.I absolutely LOVE Starman by James Robinson. To me the full serie ranks up there with Alan Moore’s best work (on continuing series I’d say) in terms of sophistication and “word building”. Among the huge cast of characters, the Shade always stood out as this realistic sometime villain, sometime hero character. Both his power set and persona made him quite interesting. Tony Harris may be the historic penciller of the serie, the one it is the most identified with but despite the fact that I loved his work on it (and still love his work), I find he was a young artist at the time that would later reaches higher artistic height (that could have benefited the serie). Then Mr Snejbjerg came in fully in grasp of his artistic abilities and great storytelling. I believe his style was perfectly suited for the serie and he introduced lots of nuance in it, specifically on the characters themselves (whereas Harris really made Opal City shine). As he really made the Shade his own, I had to bug him to accept a commission when he was a guest at a past Facts convention. He was a bit reluctant to commit to a full commission during a show as he usually prefers to take his time but kindly agreed in face of my enthusiasm meeting him. I think the result speaks for itself. The Shade looks almost regal here. And gentlemanly dangerous. I did request for him to display his powers in some way and also came with the idea of his name being incorporated in the darkness. What I find amazing is that Mr Snejbjerg managed to use different types of blacks to differentiate his body from the darkness itself. Delighted by this one (as you can probably tell). I agree, Shade is a wonderfully developed character, and this is fine example of Peters work on the iconic series!

Great story and equally great result. The various blacks and the intertwining name are quite impressive for a commission done at a con. Congrats on that awesome commish!!
