DescriptionA beautiful early (4-25-34) example from Dashiell Hammett (author of The Maltese Falcon) and Alex Raymond’s Secret Agent X-9. I had been trying to find the right example from the strip for quite some time, but had just not found something that, to me, fully captured Raymond’s elegant and graceful lines. That was certainly not a problem with this one – the delicacy of Raymond’s brushwork is fully displayed. It’s a beautiful piece of art and history that I am thrilled to have in my collection.Social/Sharing |

There are far too many superlatives which can be said about this daily to state here. Suffice it to say that the artistry on this example is FAR ABOVE that of all others in the run. Truly, THE "cream of the crop" example!

A definite oversight on my part.

Such a great daily. Those first two panels are sublime. The female figure depiction and gestures are ethereal. I like the way the third and fourth panel transition with the word balloon making it seem like a bigger panel and changing the timing of the strip/storytelling. Raymond was already a genius.

The beautiful brushed blacks are offset by the strarkness of the white background. The fine lines used to draw the facial features is superb. His Flash Gordon work will take some time to exhibit the talent displayed here. The extended last panel is exquisite in design. Congrats!
