Description

The two things I enjoyed most about the 1993 Death of Superman storyline were the creation of the new Superboy and Cyborg Superman, both really great designs and cool characters. I was really intrigued when I saw DC was crafting this alternate reality tale based on the infamous storyline, focused on how Superman's death affected Lois Lane.

This Dark Multiverse version of the story was really good, though it would've held more gravitas if it had been stretched out over 4 issues rather than one double sized issue, as the deaths in this version of the story make you go "Wow!" when they happen, but the problem is they happen one after another, and so quickly, that the reader doesn't have time to think about or come to terms with what just happened. Aside from that though, it was a really good story.

The art is terrific, as it's done by Brad Walker and Andrew Hennessy, the great team currently drawing Detective Comics. I've been a fan of their work together for going on 10 years now, so when the opportunity arose to pick up a page from this story, I quickly snagged this one, featuring my favourite DC super villain, Cyborg Superman!

Great page Ruben! Walker/Hennessy are incredible and still pretty underrated. That won't last if they keep up the work they did on this and Detective Comics.

Of the four new Supermen introduced in 1993, Cyborg Superman fascinated me the most. And as the story progressed, his role just got more and more exciting. This is an outstanding page, and I love that middle splash. I need to read this special multiverse tale!
