If I was going to add a Terry and the Pirates daily to my collection, it was sure as heck going to contain that ball o� sass, the Dragon Lady. She�s at her sassiest here giving Terry some helpful relationship advice. Yowza!

Terry and the Pirates began on October 22, 1934, and the Sunday color pages began December 9, 1934. Initially, the storylines of the daily strips and Sunday pages were different, but on August 26, 1936, they merged into a single storyline. While well known amongst collectors, not all know how incredibly popular the strip was in its heyday - 31 million newspaper subscribers between 1934 and 1946 read the strip.

Of the many characters introduced in the strip, the most iconic is that of the incredible femme fatale, the Dragon Lady. Her name kind of says it all�and the fact that she always refers to herself in the third-person adds a certain �mythos� to her character. She�s one of a number of non-American female antagonists (all of whom refer to themselves in the third person) of the strip, including such crook and spy characters as Sanjak & Rose. The Dragon Lady is a pirate queen who is always clashing with Terry & Pat � and even when she fights on the side of �good�, she�s only doing so to protect the riches derived from her criminal activities. An interesting lady�particularly for the times.
