DescriptionI can't say I was ever a fan of artist Fred Meagher, but as my collection of Cisco Kid strips will attest, I AM a huge fan of the "American Old West", as well as a fan of nicely illustrated women in comic book art and newspaper strips. I'd also actually seen enough examples of the Buffalo Bill strip to know it really didn't interest me, particularly because I find Meagher's work on this strip generally tended to be fairy mediocre. But as the saying goes, "There's an exception to every rule.", and although it may be cliché, I've always also found it to be very true. For me, this daily represents that example.Firstly, that this example prominently features a beautiful squaw in all 4 panels is a good start. That she has a beautiful and glamorous appearance in the first two panels is what sealed the deal. But I also mid 20th century depictions of strong and confident females, especially of those who can kick ass without the need for a man's help. So having her break free of the ropes that bound her and then take out the guard in the final 2 panels in an attempt to single handedly rescue Buffalo Bill who is seen strung up with rope on the side of a cliff, that is just icing on the cake for me! What makes this daily even more beautiful and impressive looking in person, is its size. When I decided to buy it online, no measurement was given and I didn't ask. But I assumed it was likely a smallish 15 inches wide or so. Then I received it and was stunned to see it measures a HUGE 26.5" wide by 8.25" tall.
