Description

I recently acquired this painting. It is the cover painting for the Avon Fantasy Reader No. 9 and illustrates the story "The Flower-Women" by Clarke Ashton Smith.
There were a combined 23 issues of the Avon Fantasy Reader and the Avon Science
Fiction Reader and this is the only cover painting I know of that has survived! I believe this painting to be the work of Ann Cantor, a regular cover artist at Avon in
the 1940's and 1950's. It was published by the Avon Publishing Company in 1949.
