Fantastic two page sequence. I think I bid on these but it's clear they wound up in the best possible home.

Grell doing it all in storytelling layout and line art! A bit of Romita, a bit of Neal, and a dash of Eisner suspense in this concrete jungle shootout! The layout is just as complex as the city itself with sharp panel edges and corners all in a grid.

Fantastic detailed inking. Since it's all Mike Grell the art and inking go so well together in the design. When I see something like this, I think to myself there has to be some really clear direction work from art to inking in the design work (would imagine there would have to be lots of specific notes or lots of back and forth for art and inker to be on same page), but since it's the same mind for art, inking, and story it goes so beautifully well together all in one page.

Wow, you snagged pages from the second issue? And what a page this is! Beautiful, rain driven action that keeps the eyes moving quickly to see what happens!

Incredible page from Jon Sable Freelance by the great Mike Grell. I love the way this page flows as smoothly as a movie storyboard. You open with the scene of Sable down on the ground, after being shot at. Then you have Sable lifting his head trying to spot his attacker. In the third panel, a wide shot reveals his attacker leaping between buildings as Sable shoots at him. Then we cut to the attacker's POV shooting at Sable. Then three quick cuts showing Sable's gone, then a tight closeup of his face and gun finally a silhouette of Sable climbiing up a fire escape ladder trying to reach his attacker. What a stunning piece of visual storytellling!
