DescriptionThis is one of those pages that you dream about, but don't expect to ever surface. One of my favorite pages. I remember being shocked at the imagery Moore and Lloyd presented: The protagonist has strapped on a bomb vest. When was the last time you saw the "hero" essentially being shown as a terrorist? Wow. It still shakes me up and I won't be hanging it on my wall. But as an Alan Moore fan, I can appreciate the audacity.I had tried to find this page, but didn't really expect it to show up. Then it did. On Ebay, where else? But there were a ton of red flags: 1. The seller had "0" feedback. 2. The description was very strange; among other things, it listed the dimensions as "2 feet by 3.5 feet". 3. The seller would not take PayPal, payment had to be cash. That last one is a deal breaker for me. Nonetheless, I e-mailed the seller and asked if he would take payment in person, since I wasn't comfortable sending a wad of cash to an unknown seller. At the same time, I asked that if he were to end the auction early (as I knew he would be bombarded with that request) to contact me for an offer. After not hearing from him for two days, he finally responded. He simply asked me for my offer. I gave it to him. He accepted! However, he needed payment within 24 hours...could I FedEx him the cash? I countered: Could I pay you in person? He agreed. He was in SD (I'm in SF). No problem! Within a few hours, I was on a flight to pick up my prize. I still had my doubts that this was all legit, but meeting the seller, Ben, erased all fears. As it turned out, he was a godson of sorts to Alan Moore. His stepfather (the musician David J. Haskins of Bauhaus) was an old friend of Moore's. He was Moore's classmate at art school, and not only that, had collaborated on the V FOR VENDETTA soundtrack (including "This Vicious Cabaret") that was released at the time of the comic's original release in the early '80s. This page had been gifted to Ben as a high school graduation present. Ben had decided, with everyone's blessing, that now was the time to move it. As a gift, Ben gave me an autographed copy of the V soundtrack. He then had to run as David J was circling the airport waiting for us to complete our deal! Thanks Ben. Another tidbit I found out: Moore never had much original art from his works. But he specifically asked for this one, his lone example from V FOR VENDETTA. It's cool to have a page that he held in the same high regard as I do. The craziest deal I've ever done...I'll be keeping this page for the story value, if nothing else:) Social/Sharing |

Felix, The life experience of how you were able to obtain these pieces is as good a story as the prose related in these artworks/story. Congrats.

It's one of my favorite parts of the book, too, and, yes, it is very cool to know the history of ownership here. The fact that Moore asked specifically for this page puts it and the entire sequence in a new light.

Normally I'd be insanely jealous of anyone for having such a kind of art AND story to go along with it, but for some strange reason reading your story and just oogling the art I can't feel anything but excitement and delight for you. Congratulations on such an awesome piece of art, and the story that goes along with it is on par with it. I've the music David J. did for the V soundtrack. Try listening to This Vicious Cabaret while reading the chapter. It's very good and well-fitting. Don't ever let this go. It's got more history than most pieces. Once again, congratulations.

One of the best pages of the entire series. The story behind the aquitstion is facinating. Like they say, you can't amke this stuff up. If I owned this page, I'd probably never sell it. The imagery and symbolism are almost mind boggling.

Those early issues of Warrior were incredible. The fact it was black and white made the artist work shine. The use of the white in this page is perfect. One of the best V pages period. Your story is awesome. The art even better.

As a standard super hero fanboy , I have always looked at those "sophisticated" comic novels with a bit of suspicion. At 55, I am now ready to give them a fair try . After DKR and Watchmen I am now reading V for V. And boy is it worth it ! Dense reading indeed but highly rewarding . Great piece of comic history you have there !
