DescriptionCelebrating Hispanic and Latin American Heritage month this banger of a cover was created by up-and-coming superstar artist J. Gonzo!I mean, who doesn't love a good sugar skull!? The acquisition of this piece just happened to be a right place at the right time scenario. Gonzo's a friend going back a long time here in the local Phoenix comic art scene. He was gracious enough to bring back my 2024 Heroes purchases on his trek back to Arizona. Multiple weeks later I was able to make it down to his studio and while gathering my items I saw the original and was absolutely blown away! First and foremost the art is intricate, twice-up and was graciously coupled with all of the processes pieces including the thumbnail sent to Marvel, quick mock-ups, the paste-ups used for symmetry in the lace and additional finer line detail in the eyes, face and hands. I'm very stoked to get it framed and hanging on my wall. I'm also happy to support my friend and own his first ever Marvel comics published art. I highly encourage everyone to buy his works whenever possible. You should also follow him on all the social media outlets (@jgonzoart) to get the latest on what he's working on. You won't be sorry. I can't get enough of J's take on characters. His attention to detail and design is unmatched.
I also asked about this piece and was told someone visiting the studio picked it up. Congrats "someone"

This is definitely making a statement on the wall with the Dia de los Muertos aesthetic! The supernatural touch is made very beautiful with the marigolds and also dense background pattern giving it an exotic look.

This is an absolute killer of a piece. I'm looking forward to more J.Gonzo covers on the rack and more original art. We just got to get to it before his friends do! 😉

When I saw this piece I think my jaw might have actually dropped! I love the unique mixing of lines styles and influences. This is the first cover of J. Gonzos I've seen but I know it won't be the last. The dia de Los muertos sugar skull, religious iconography and pop-art fuse beautifully and is a perfect fit for one of the dopest new characters of the last 10 years. Thanks for sharing this and congratulations to you for the awesome acquisition and your friend for his first Marvel cover! ¡Salud!
