Description

Regular viewers of my gallery will recognize some of these characters from their multiple appearances here. Originally called "Ania Nation," they are now members of the Order -- and what exactly is the Order, and what is their mission? Well, gather round kiddies, and I'll tell you a tale.

I've long wondered what it would be like to have a group of superheroes tackled bad guys similar to ones we have in the real world. What if they went after dictators in third world countries, human slave traffickers, human rights abusers, and the like? What if they went after a Kim Jong-un-like bad guy, or one like Papa Doc Duvalier, or one like Bashar al-Assad (president of Syria) and so on? How would the world react? Or what if this group took on such a cause not only to save and defend the oppressed and rid the world of some really bad people, but also to jump-start their failed and stagnant superhero careers? That's what the Order is. Altruistic AND self-serving at the same time.

The Order consists of a group of self-styled superheroes whose own careers have faltered. As seen here, they are (clockwise, starting far upper left): Big Masai, Chapel, Heru, Sentinel (flying), Rapture, Omega Man (center), Ebony Warrior, and Moe Muscle.

Pencils are by the amazing Val Semeiks and inks by the incomparable Bob Almond. Nuff said.

Everybody's fine with Superman taking down Luthor's giant robot when it rampages thru' Metropolis, but get all squeamish if they decide to go after a political supervillain brainwashing and subjugating his ... subjects, I guess. Yeah.
