DescriptionYou wouldn't think that adapting German opera to comics would be a popular idea, but Wagner's "The Ring of the Nibelung" was actually adapted twice -- first by Gil Kane in the late 80's and then again by P. Craig Russell in the early 2000's.This was obviously a passion project for Kane and he put a lot of heart into it. The series was well received at the time, but I think it's mostly forgotten about today. This key page features the gruesome death of Siegfried, who's the main protagonist of the story. No one drew violence like Gil Kane! I purchased this page in 2013, so it's not really a new acquisition. Social/Sharing |

Kane did some of his best work on this series. This is an excellent example of what the man could do when he really cared about a project.

The layout is amazing! Kane's choice to highlight the fatal blow over the stillness of death at the bottom shows the emphasis on the high moments like an opera!

SPLUTCH! I felt like some gory onomatopoeia needed to be supplied. Man, when Kane hit, he hit. I really like his work from this series, and this is great page. And I always enjoyed how he would use the layout to support the action and story so well. Very cool find. Congrats!

This is really a very special, well-known and important scene in the Nibelungen saga... and it's artistically/drawingly really fabulous. Congratulations on this work of art.
