DescriptionI've owned the strip from November 8, 1977 since 2006 and I couldn't resist this one when it showed up in one of the Heritage weekly auctions. It's amazing that Al Williamson was able to do this caliber of work day after day. Thanks to a helpful comment from CAF member oa_cafe _, I was able to find a post from J David Spurlock from September 2023 on Facebook regarding this strip. Per David: "Al Williamson & Jeffrey Jones were good friends. In this 1977 strip of Williamson's, he models for both Corrigan and the antique dealer. But Al also draws the Caveman Sculpture Jeff Jones created and gifted him." It looks like Jeff Jones released a limited edition of 100 of these Caveman statues in 1973 and they seem to be fairly collectible today. The statue also appears in the November 8 strip -- I'll have to scan and post that in the near future. Social/Sharing |

Really sweet daily Ted! I'm still looking for the right example from Williamson's run on Corrigan to add to my collection.

that statue in the strip is a homage to jeff jones, who sculpted it in the early/mid 1970s; awesome win, kudos

all good; you're welcome; i'd like to add that's it's a sought-after statue and commands a hefty price tag; also someone recently posted your strip in a facebook jones group fyi
further, that statue was advertised in an early russ cochran's art catalog; i think it's called "cave man", and the other statue was a woman; damn, you're so lucky to own that strip; like the maltese falcon statue haha

Thanks again for the info. My other Corrigan strip from November 8, 1977 also has that statue in it and I never really noticed it before. I only have a low-res scan right now so I'll have to dig up that strip and re-scan and post it here.
