Description

"The Doom Diamond" is Carl Barks' last regularly printed Uncle Scrooge story what he both wrote and drew, done in 1966 (published in 1967 in Uncle Scrooge #70). However, for some reason the publisher changed a bit publishing order, and "Hall of Mermaid Queen" (in US#68) and "The Cattle King" (in US#69) Barks submitted after this "The Doom Diamond".
From this manuscript and the inked artwork Barks got 1092$ payment from the publisher in March 24 1967.

This handwritten manuscript is 27-pages long, the published story is 24-pager.
It is done by pencil on unlined bond paper. The draft contains notations, corrections, and changes on each 11" x 8.5" page.
Barks never sold this manuscript (like most of his artwork), and kept it. It was then later first time sold by Bonhams at the Estate of Carl Barks Auction held on 6/4/2007, and later by Heritage Auctions in 2017.
Each printed comic book page is having 1 manuscript page, except 2 pages having 2 manuscript pages. And then there is 1 page which was rejected. That is worth to study a bit more ;-)
To get a bit more enjoyable reading experience I sliced one US #70 comic book into a binder together with this manuscript, so that manuscript page is next to final printed page. For that a chef´s knife was the best, please remember this when slicing Barks' Ducks! ;-) And never use Mylar or other polyethylene plastics for storing pencil works! It is clear and good for printed materials, but pencil works will "burn" into it. The only solution is using polypropylene plastic for pencil works. However I sacrificed one comic book, having another one capsulated, US #70 CGG 9.2.
