DescriptionThis piece has just become a bit more historicIt is published in the 25th anniversary edition of Arkham Asylum Where Dave confirms that this is his first Arkham Asylum piece and that it was published before Arkham Asylum was released! It's always difficult to photograph an object behind glass All the art is visible and I have framed the piece slightly floating above the background, all acid free materials and UV filtering glass For me this is a dream come true. I have finally got my Mckean Joker piece. There are many good Joker pieces out there by many great artists, but for me Dave's Joker is the only Joker that shows his absolute and complete lunacy Ever since I discovered that this beautiful Joker piece existed I knew this was the piece I wanted, simply because I think this is by far the best Joker piece. All Joker, the way Mckean does it best. This was made for the charity auction for the 1988 UKCAC (Brittish comic book convention, for those of you that are unfamiliar with this) . This piece caused quite a stir during that convention because it realized a record sale price in the history of the UKCAC charity auctions. Two London based comicshop owners ended up bidding against each other. It measures 29 ½ x 21 ½ inches and is done in inks, pencils acrylics and collage. Dave made the poker cards himself. Very few people outside the UK knew that this piece even existed, until now. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Social/Sharing |

Have to agree, I think that's a better Mckean Joker than in all of Arkham Asylum!

This is really cool! I was sitting right behind McKean at the UKCAC show when this was being bid on. McKean was obviously stunned at how much this was going for compared to the other pieces (and there were some REALLY good pieces that year) that were up too. It was a really amazing auction to sit in on. I lost my con booklet years ago, so it was really neat to see this piece again. Thanks for sharing.

Within a week or two I will finally have had the time to frame it so it will be properly displayed and protected. Took a long time deciding how I should frame it. New picture will be added as soon as it's done

Such a powerful image. Captures the intensity of the character as I have never seen it done before. Dave really is a genius.

I think it's the best McKean page I've seen, and he's got a lot of great pages. And so do you.

I was at that auction and worked for one of the shop owners and there was already a rumour going round that both owners were prepared to bid a lot for the artwork.
As I recall if the price got unrealistically high, the plan was to bid up the other, far wealthier shop owner as far as my boss dared go with no intention of winning the auction and that's exactly what happened.
