DescriptionAt the end of 1992, Marvel teased their futuristic 2099 universe with the initial core titles. Spider-Man 2099 (Miguel O'Hara) had a his "debut" (actually just a couple of page preview from issue #1 of the series) in August 1992 in the back of Amazing Spider-Man #365.Sales To Astonish was a cleverly named promotional "comic" that was sent to retailers and is itself very hard to find. This was just weeks later in September of 1992 and featured not only the FIRST COVER APPEARANCE of Spider-Man 2099 but the first appearance of the entire 2099 Universe. It was the very first appearance of Ravage 2099, Punisher 2099 (Jake Gallows) and Doom 2099. The interior offered a couple of B&W pages previewing both Spider-Man 2099 and Ravage 2099 (Doom 2099 and Punisher 2099 did not debut until Jan and Feb 1993 respectively). This is just a very cool and nostalgic image with wonderful renditions of these "futuristic" Marvel heroes that are now almost 30 years old. It is a fantastic image of Spider-Man 2099 - the first time he appeared on a cover! Classic. Social/Sharing |

Now this piece looks familiar! Always fun when you can be both a collector and historian at once. This was a cool piece and a cool discovery. What took so long to post it?!?

I was watching Dueling Dealers' when I wrote this, so sue me if I go too fast
But life is just a party and parties weren't meant to last
Covid Omicron is all around us, my mind says prepare to fight
So if I gotta die I'm gonna listen to my body tonight
Say say two thousand zero zero party over, oops, out of time
So tonight I'm gonna party like it's 2099!

A fantastic piece of comic book history! I wonder why we didn't get more Ty Templeton work on these characters since he did a wonderful job with this cover.

Ha ha, "Sales to Astonish" - thought it was mistake at first! And this is so cool, man. Pumping the new 2099 universe, and you got the big 4 featured, headlined by Spidey of course. One of the best costumes of all time. Congrats!

Fantastic 2099 Cover! This is very nostalgic, I remember being in grade 4 and eating up everything Marvel 2099, especially Spider-Man. Congrats, this is awesome!

Hmm, I think we're missing another important piece of the puzzle here. I don't think this is just the first cover appearance of the central 2099 cast, but the actual "birth page".
This exact image was published for the first time in December 1991 in the pages of Marvel Annual Report #1. Apparently this was exclusively sent to stockholders and this image had captions from the characters getting stockholders interested in their upcoming series.
There's a great image of the page on this particular eBay listing: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/ycUAAOSwwpZhgdEi/s-l1600.webp
