DescriptionWhoaaa!!! That's how I responded the first time I saw this 1966 twice-up Silver Age Daredevil cover. The art is so massive--with an image area of 13.5" by 20.25" on 15" by 22" art board--it's almost like staring at one of those giant Omnitheater screens. Drawn by the dynamic Gene Colan, the cover features a huge figure of Daredevil, acrobatically spinning his body around on a rope and landing both feet smack in the face of the villainous Tri-Man. As if that's not enough, in the foreground two more villains--the Gladiator and the Masked Marauder--are watching the battle on some kind of viewing scope. On top of all that, the art is by the amazing Gene Colan in only his second Daredevil cover! If you can't tell already, I'm pretty excited about scoring this historic Silver Age 1966 Daredevil cover!Social/Sharing |

I so love early Colan on Daredevil. The images were so rich with blacks and super dynamic. And this is large art as well...must be amazing in person

A lovely cleanly drawn DD cover by Gene the Dean, with wonderfully tight pencils and inking before his style became looser and more atmospheric.

BOOM !!!! Goes the dynamite ....... Welcome officially to CAF. I heard you picked up this beauty at SDCC. It's another great example from a master draftsman in your amazing collection. Having a twice up cover from Colan is just the icing on the cake. The CAF universe will be anxiously waiting for your next update. Cheers! N.

Even if this was “regular size” it would be a true beauty. I can only imagine the oversized piece in person! Great great cover.

The first Daredevil story I ever read, through a 1970's reprint, so this cover image is still clearly imprinted in my brain. Fabulous twice up piece!

A large art cover of DD battling in a boxing ring, with the Gladiator to boot - it doesn't get any better than this!

Gorgeous! Inked By Frank Giacoia with little dabs and doddles from, I assume, Production.

Lovely cover Bill. Hopefully, I can find a Colan DD half as nice as this one.

This is quite a score! Gene Colan already demonstrates how much he likes the dazzling acrobatics of what is fast becoming his signature character!

This is a classic Marvel cover in so many ways, and may have been one of Colan's best examples. Love the villain in the foreground looking at the hero through a screen trope. It is oft-used because it works so well, and especially well in the hands of a master like Colan, here. You could be blind and still appreciate this cover (sorry, I had to). Congratulations on an excellent acquisition!

It it interesting in the previous comments that no one acknowledged or confirmed the significance of this cover as you wrote in your description, This is just the second cover that Gene drew for Daredevil as he would take on the duties after John Romita, Sr. shifted over to the ASM title. He had by far one of the longest runs on this title. More importantly, Gene also dropped his 'Adam Austin' persona in 1965 that Marvel had tagged him with when he was pencilling the Tales to Astonish title to avoid DC going after him for free-lancing with Marvel.
