DescriptionHOLY ROGUES GALLERY, BATMAN! Absolutely gorgeous cover from Arthur Adams! This is the wraparound variant cover for Detective Comics #1027, the 2020 celebration of the 1000th issue to feature Batman. As great as the art looks here, in person it’s jaw-dropping. For one thing, the art is enormous--23.5” by 17.75” on one board--Larger even than a Silver Age twice-up cover! Beautifully composed and painstakingly rendered, the art features a huge full figure Dark Knight confronting virtually his entire Rogue’s Gallery--The Joker, Penguin, Clayface, Scarecrow, Mr. Freeze, Bane, Riddler, Two Face, Killer Croc, Poison Ivy, Mad Hatter, Deadshot, Man-Bat, White Rabbit, Tweedledum and Tweedledee, and of course, Catwoman. Arthur spared nothing drawing this, every villain is given his or her own unique Arthur Adams’ treatment. I especially love Arthur’s Clayface, Scarecrow, and Joker, but they’re all amazing. The inks are as superb as the drawing, with strong, powerful lines, lush pops of black and tons of crosshatching. Arthur really outdid himself on this one. There’s so much detail crammed into this one piece of art that I see new details every time I look at it. I’m thrilled to add this Arthur Adams tour de force to my collection.Social/Sharing |

My fav' storytelling element in this cover is probably Catwoman hiding from both the Bat' and the villains and yet positioned under him/on his side, indicating that she has often stood in each camp.

You can't expect anything less than insane detail from Art Adams! I love how this is practically Knightfall 2.0, with some then-absent villains joining the fray!

My jealousy on this piece knows no bounds. I am glad to know that it was you that outbid me on this one. It is fantastic in every way. The composition, Adam's take on each character and still managing to make each so detailed with Batman the focus. Tremendous. I love it!..if you decide to part with it, you know where I am :)

Wow, this is crazy good! These over-sized, hyper detailed, many character pieces by Art are always stunning and I would love to see one up close, in person. Home run addition to your museum worthy collection. Congrats!!

Good for you, and congrats on this epic auction win. Was casually tracking this one and then the bidding started to get really interesting, so I made it a point to wait at the finish line. I wasn't so much interested in where it might end up, as I was in what the final hammer would be. Again, congrats on a massive win. The fact that it ended up in your collection just makes my smile a little bigger. If you ever come out to visit and feel comfortable enough to tuck this under your arm, I would love to see it in person. As I've done with so many of my AA pieces, my friendly suggestion to you would be to prop this up somewhere and spend the next few (or several) days just studying it. You'll enjoy every second.

This was one of the stand out pieces from the auction it was in and for good reason. With the vast majority of art sold at auction getting sucked up into seemingly black holes, it's great to see this piece was acquired by someone willing to share it. There's nothing I can say about the art that you haven't already mentioned yourself, Bill, aside from my also loving the technique Arthur used to create the brick texture, which is phenomenal. So I'll end with a simple: Congratulations!

This piece is epic, in every sense of the word. You have the greatest rogues gallery in all of comics, depcited by one of the medium's seminal artists. The piece is detailed without feeling crowded. Big congratulations!

What a glorious piece! Arthur Adams is in rarified air, he seems to only get better over the years.
This is a prime example of his abilities and showcase all his abilities on one of they most iconic heroes and almost his entire rogues gallery.

There's never a cheat with AA. The man absolutely delivers every time. Simply wonderous wraparound cvr with so much menace coming at BM. The art by Art, who is the artful, artisic artileryman of comic artworks, chokes up ye old Adams apple. Bravo!

Just a perfect subject for the talent of Arthur Adams. No character has the villians rogue that Batman has. And no other artist could have tackled this better than Art did here.
