DescriptionHere's a great example of Mike Mignola's work on Hellboy. Mignola gets a lot of praise for his work on this title and should. He's developed a style that's visually distinctive but still manages to tell a story. His figures remind me of Jack Kirby-- They're very blocky, almost sculptural. But unlike Kirby, Mignola is a minimalist, using only as much detail as he has to. I love the high-contrast look he achieves. IMHO, He's a true modern master.Social/Sharing |

Wow, that is a perfect Hellboy piece—all the classic Mignola touches, and as an added bonus it has those great title stats; the Hellboy logo is so slick. Presents really well—awesome!

Love your updates Bill. I also like how your collecting palette ranges from silver age to modern art as well.

I think I just missed out on this piece about 10 years ago in SD - Mike had several covers under the table, and this was the only classic one and by far the nicest. It had also already been sold... Congrats to you whether you were that buyer or one further down the line. It's a beauty.

Great cover! They get a little lost in the published version so I love that you can see all the cool sigils here. Mignola is awesome!

Yeah.... it's hard to get any better than this. If you had to have just ONE Hellboy piece, I think this would fill your quots nicely. Wow.

Beautiful cover! Mignola is a fine artist with a great sense of design and visual aesthetics. His distinctive style can be recognized by novice art collectors and even the casual comic readers.
