DescriptionThere's something really compelling about Mike Mignola's work. Partly it's the way he simplifies his visual storytelling down to the basics. Everything is black or white, with nothing inbetween, no shading, no cross hatching, no zip-a-tone, no nothing. Partly it's that his work is so distinctive. When you're looking at a Mike Mignola piece, there's no one else who could have done it. It's his the way Vincent Van Gogh's work is his. And partly it's the feeling that the work couldn't be drawn any other way. There's no inker who's going to change the way it looks. There's no colorist who's going to overwhelm the drawing. It's drawn the way it is because that's the only way it could be drawn. One more thing--I think you either love what Mike Mignola does or you don't. Me, I love it.Social/Sharing |

Wonderful art, and equally wonderfully articulate description! Your sharing of your impressive collection on CAF is much appreicated, and this is just the latest of a long line of pieces that I've enjoyed since you've deemed to unveil your enormously deep and astoundingly historic collection. Congrats on being able to aquire this piece, and all of the others that you've managed to add to your collection over the years, and thanks for sharing them all here for our viewing pleasure! I'm looking forward to your next update, and the update after that...

Stupendous MM example! Dynamic and perfectly composed; the design in this is too good. Really enjoyed your comments in the description as well, and I like Mignola's variation on a famous James Joyce passage in the title, reinforcing the Irish themes in his Hellboy work.

Used to own this and still regret letting it go. However, the sale paid for my wife's engagement ring so I can't really complain. Glad to see its in a good home amongst some pretty incredible stuff! If you ever decide to part with it then please do let me know first. Cheers!

There is a definite Frazetta influence in this composition. Everything Mignola does is so striking and it starts with his strong composition choices. Great piece!!!!
