DescriptionWow! Check out this jaw-dropping cover to Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man #4. It’s an exciting scene, with Spider-Man battling the original Vulture (Adrian Toomes) high above the rooftops of Manhattan! We join them in midbattle, as Spidey dishes out a powerful left hook that momentarily stuns the Vulture. And if the situation weren’t dire enough, there’s a female hostage clinging for her life to the ledge of the building nearest us. What is Peter Parker going to do? Just a thrilling cover from artist Dave Cockrum. Cockrum is, of course, best known for his legendary stint on The Uncanny X-Men, and it was right in the middle of that run when he drew this cover. Like his X-Men art, Dave created an appealingly dramatic cover here, with Spidey and one of his oldest nemeses engaged in a slugfest for the ages. The art is signed by Cockrum in the lower right.Note: When the art was sold to me, someone had attached a reproduction of the wrong logo to the art, using the two-line version of the title from later issues, presumably to leave more room for the art. In the interest of matching the art to the published cover I asked a professional art restorer to replace that logo with a recreation of the original three-line logo and to add the missing title blurb. Beautiful cover, Bill! I like the whiteout art correction on these old-school pieces. It's part of the process. Congrats!

And the hits just keep on comin’! Totally agree with your description - lots to like about this one! It’s really an image that makes you want to do what a cover should - open up the book ASAP and see what’s going on inside! Congrats!

My favorite character battling one of his classic villains, all depicted by a comic legend. What more could you want?

Quite honestly Cockrum is not one of those artists that comes to mind when I think about fabulous Spider-man delinators; but boy howdy is this just a truly SPECTACULAR depiction of ole webhead! Love the composition on this. A very strong Spidey cover, and great example from Cockrum! Congrats, and thanks for sharing!

How did I miss this incredible gem? I love the layout of this Spidey/Vulture battle, with all it's dizzying elements.. It's a perfect example of why Cockrum is the master that he is.

What a fantastic cover! And inked by one of my favorite inkers and people, Frank Giacoia. He was such a character. Bill, you would have loved him. He lived a few houses away and was always at the local coffee shop. He was there so much that him and his brother bought the place. I used to sit with him all the time and drink coffee and listen to his stories. My dad loved him like a brother. Frank often had problems finishing jobs and would call my dad to help out. Dad inked a good % of his work.

What a terrific story! I would have loved to have coffee with him. Sounds like a great guy! Your Dad sounds like a good sport.

The action, the buildings, the perspective - it all merges together into a phenomenally great cover. Truly a gem.
