DescriptionEd Benes' reputation has been steadily increasing in recent years, thanks to his work on such titles as Birds of Prey, JLA and Batgirl. This cover, from Batgirl #14, is part of The Death of the Family storyline in which Batgirl takes on the Joker after he kidnaps her mother. When she confronts the Joker he proposes to her, offering her mother's severed finger with the wedding ring still on it. So is the Joker love-sick or simply sick-sick? This cover is a fabulous example of Benes' work. Notice the finely detailed drawing of the Joker, with his false face tied on, holding a heart-shaped box of chocolates and a shiny knife. Note too, the beautifully rendered drawing of the wounded Batgirl, surrounded by a horde of chattering teeth. Just a great piece of work, IMHO.Social/Sharing |

Definitely an eerie cover...in a great way! Sense of atmostphere is off the charts. Great Benes example. Congrats!

I must admit not being familiar with this artist. But what a striking piece of art. Yeah it is a bit sick, but that is appropriate for the Joker. Ed Benes is obviously an artist I will have to pay greater attention to. Congrats.

The chattering teeth did it for me. Brings back images of dentist bringing those things at me when I was child. I know now he was trying to help but back then I thought dentists were just as twisted as the Joker. “This guy is going to take all my teeth and show them to people”.

Wow! Such an intense and beautifully drawn cover. I am a HUGE fan of Ed Benes, and this piece is one of the reasons why. Great addition to your out-of-this-world collection!

Wow. It's not often I get to see Ed do evil. Most of his art is a lot softer on the eye so this is quite the surprise. Also this is a home run of a haunted cover. Congrats
