DescriptionLeinil Yu is amazing. He's been working in the comic book field for 20 years and he's made quite a name for himself. He has a brilliantly unique style, a loose drawing technique with tons of crosshatching and a selective use of blacks, which really sets him apart. There is a sketchbook quality to his finished work that makes every drawing look as simple as a convention sketch, even though it's meticulously thought-out. There's a real beauty in the simplicity. This variant cover for Uncanny X-Men #600 may look like it was just dashed off, but when you study it closely you see that the composition has been carefully planned, with Wolverine stepping forward and the entire X-Men team taking position behind him. Yu's style gives the cover a lot of energy and makes it seem more alive. I just love his work.Social/Sharing |

I get the whole sketch quality thing you're talking about. But I think it just adds a whole nother level of grit and energy to his drawings. This cover is a perfect example of that.

There’s a grittiness to Yu’s work that just works and that’s definitely the case here. Love how his style works w/ and w/o rendering, inks, pencils, etc...a great example you got here, Bill. Love that front and center Wolvie! Congrats!

You know what I love about you as a collector, Bill? It's that you primarily were a nostalgia collector buying great pieces from your childhood in the 60's and 70's, but unlike the vast majority of similar collectors whose nostalgia so overpowers them that they cannot even contemplate looking at any contemporary art much less buy it, you have continued to remain open minded and also kept your eyes open and that has led you to continue to expand the focus of your collection with some equally incredible quality modern pieces. This qualifies as one of those. Brilliant, congrats!
