Description

Man, there's nothing more that I love than giving an artist a character he's never drawn before and letting him cut loose. And that's exactly what happened here.

Arvell Jones is one of the greats from the Bronze Age of Comics. His bonafides include stints on ALL-STAR SQUADRON, IRON MAN, IRON FIST, LUKE CAGE, and a host of others. After he floored me with his amazing rendition of Technique -- also posted in this gallery -- I knew I had to have another. But unlike Technique -- a character that Arvell drew in her first appearance -- I wanted to give him one that he'd never drawn (or even seen) before. So I gave him a character not represented on a solo piece here: Azrael II.

Azrael II is Michael Lane, the second guy to go by that name. The first was John-Paul Valley who, I think, was dead before Lane took over. Lane headlined his own series for 15 issues and has barely been seen at all since the start of the New 52 DC Universe. Whether or not he returns to the DCU remains to be seen -- I'm betting he won't -- but he'll always have a home HERE and you can bet he'll eventually turn up with the Brotherhood or the Brotherhood Black-Ops team (more likely the latter). I've got your back, Azrael!

Great work from Arvell! I wish that this version of Azrael would appear again, too. The Bat-books only seem to remember the Robins nowadays.

Arvell has always been an underrated talent, this is really nice. Of the 3 prelims, tho all are nice, this one stands out. great choice..great execution.
