DescriptionJim Starlin was a master of turning comic books into cosmic books. He specialized in stories with a galactic twist. Together with writer Len Wein, he created such incredible characters as Thanos, Drax the Destroyer and Gamora. For DC, they created Mongol, the intergalactic supervillain. In this issue of DC Presents, Superman and Starman join forces to prevent Mongol from becoming ruler of an empire spanning a hundred planets. Starlin really outdid himself on this cover, drawing Superman and Starman in powerful poses and the sinister face of Mongol looming threateningly amidst a crackling starfield. IMHO, it's a Jim Starlin classic!Social/Sharing |

I don't remember all the DC Comics Presents covers - but I remember this one - classic composition!

I have to agree with Mark. Starlin did such a great job here with the composition and the "Cosmic Crackle" (for which he was well known), and DC was right to promo this cover among the couple of DC titles that I collected at that time (New Teen Titans and Batman) off the newstand. I just could not find it in order to purchase it until much later. This Starlin cover stood out among much of his output for DC, and it needs to be part of the BMOCAIM when it goes on its traveling display of the United States.

Finaly some DC goodness, and what a great piece to start with. Starlin's ability to project power in his images, just bursts forth from the image.
Seriously envious, congrats.

Powerful poses and crackling energy is right. Superman's expression is pure determination. This 'cosmic book cover' TOTALLY ROCKS!
