That's a thinking piece. Black hole event horizon, maybe?

That's what I was thinking. Interesting as 'Event Horizon' didn't come out until 1997, 16 years later. It sure is a creepy depiction of a black hole, isn't it?

A well executed painting. The bits of haze near the black hole are a nice touch as the light is being sucked out of the nearby stars. All of the foreground debris is incredible. The ship is a mechanical engineering marvel. All of the colors mesh perfectly.

Very nice piece as it interprets scientific concepts with the fantasy of science fiction to create imagery that the general public would understand.
