DescriptionThe Silver Surfer was one of those ideas that shouldn't have worked. Think about it--a cosmic-powered being who rides a surfboard between galaxies and is herald for a god-like, world-devouring entity named Galactus? What was Jack Kirby smoking the day he came up with that? It shouldn't have worked, but somehow, it did. This is the cover to Silver Surfer #1, the second series featuring the metallic-clad surfer, written by Steve Englehart, penciled by Marshall Rogers and inked by Joe Rubinstein. In this issue, the Surfer escapes his confinement on Earth, rescues Nova, the current herald to Galactus, from the Skulls and in gratitude, Galactus frees him to roam the cosmos once more. I loved this series and am totally stoked that I now own the cover to issue #1.Social/Sharing |

Arguably not one of the best images of the Surfer, but for sure a truly historic cover to have! And btw I totally agree with your writing :)

Wow! I always loved this comic as a kid, it's one of the few physical comics I've kept. Congrats on getting the OA!

Let's see now...Surfer on the board, check. Nova, with a large Galactus hovering behind, check. Oh, and it's the number one. And...I almost forgot the FF at the bottom. Classic and cool is a serious understatement!

Great pick-up--I remember being really excited about this series when it debuted, at a time when it was still special to see a #1 issue hits the stands, and the Surfer had been laying low for a while. I recently re-read these issues and they're still a lot of fun. Great stuff!

Wow - historic! A great start to a renowned run for many. I know Lim is associated with the run as the primary artist but Rogers got it going right with this cover and the first year of the book! Sincere congrats!

This is the comic that got me hooked on SIlver Surfer. The first and only series over 100 issues that I bought from start to finish.

Wow, what a great cover! I'm particlarly fond of this run on the surfer, as it was the one I grew up reading when I first got into comics. Another gem in a fantastic collection!

Wow. Didn't realize you own this. Another issue I bought off the rack. Agree with your comments. The concept of Surfer is kind of silly. But it did work :)

I remember picking up this issue off of the newsstand as a kid when it was new. Those early issues with Marshall Rogers on art were amazing. This cover is way beyond cool.
