DescriptionTo kick off the posts for my OAX pick ups, why not start with the first piece of art I received when I arrived?A few months ago, during the CAL fall show, Bryan Hitch made some Redcoat pages available. I’ve very much enjoyed this series so far with its mix of history & adventure as well as being both comedic & emotionally touching. It serves mainly as a story about a self centered British soldier, Simon Pure, who gains the power of immortality and focuses on his long journey to becoming a better human being. A main story thread during the first arc involved the founding father’s obsession with the occult and they serve as antagonists to Simon. Throughout it is teased that the grand master of the cult after Pure is none other than George Washington. There are some twists and turns and it is questioned if this is true or not, or even if Washington is still alive. Well, at the conclusion of the first arc we get our answer. Washington is alive & is now in the possession of a very powerful book of spells. When reading this story, the turn of the page to get to this end splash was incredibly impactful and memorable so when I heard Bill Cox mention he would be listing Redcoat pages for Bryan, this page was at the top of my wish list. I was incredibly excited to see this page listed when the show went live & I instantly put my request in! Right after I checked in at the OAX registration booth to get my badge & swag bag…out comes Bill with my Washington page. It was a great way to officially kick off the weekend of art acquisitions. Best part was that it had been paid for months ago! I live just outside of Philadelphia and we have taken our kids to Valley Forge numerous times to walk the trails there & have spent time in Old City Philadelphia talking about the history found there so I’m incredibly excited to get ahold of this strong image of our nations first president & folk hero. A wall worthy piece for sure! Social/Sharing |

This is such a cool page! The integration of actual historical figures into the story has made Redcoat one of my favorite comics over the last year, and this was a big one!

Wow, a George Washington splash! Isn't this the guy who led the army that seized victory from Cornwallis of Yorktown, manned the airport, rammed the ramparts, took over the airports and did everything it hadda do? This is a great piece of American history right here!

So glad I got to see this in person. Danny and I are history buffs, as well. Combine that with supernatural elements? Win, win! Adding this to my reading list

I was happy to share it! Hoping to have this one exist on a wall somewhere in the house that isn't the collection room...you know...it's educational, minus the book of spells of course, but no one in this house needs to know that aspect of it. Just a great image of George with a good book by the sea!

I am both jealous and thrilled for you - between just this and the Dracula cover, you are a Big Game Hunter of art at OAX!
reminds me that I'm a couple issues behind on Redcoat too!

Jealous and thrilled, the ultimate compliment we as collectors can give another! Thanks!!
I'm very happy how my show played out! Picked up prearranged pieces like this one & came home with a surprise gem in that Dracula cover & got to nerd out with like minded friends! Thanks again for being a part of that!!
