Description14.75" x 10.25" image area. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight #46 Page 14 Original Art (DC 1993). Russ Heath.Killer, nearly 3/4 DRAMATIC splash of the Batcave and Batmobile with a partially costumed Bruce Wayne busy in research on a case with no time to enjoy the gourmet meal that Alfred brings him. Ample iconography from the legendary Mr. Heath. This page from the Doug Moench story, "Heat." Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight, often simply called Legends of the Dark Knight, is the name of several DC comic books featuring Batman. The original series launched in 1989 as the third major monthly Batman title, following the popularity of Tim Burton's Batman film. In this magnificent page, we see the exact design Tim Burton conceived for the Batmobile in his film. In all the iterations over the years of what the Batmobile should look like, I think this is the coolest, by far! Russell Heath, Jr. (September 29, 1926 – August 23, 2018), was an American artist best known for his comic book work, particularly his DC Comics war stories and his 1960s art for Playboy magazine's "Little Annie Fanny" feature. He has also produced commercial art, two pieces of which, depicting Roman and Revolutionary War battle scenes for toy soldier sets, became familiar pieces of Americana after gracing the back covers of countless comic books from the early 1960s to early 1970s. Heath's drawings of fighter jets in DC Comics' All-American Men of War #89 (Feb. 1962) served as the basis for pop artist Roy Lichtenstein's best-known oil paintings. Heath was inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame in 2009. Out of all of Russ Heath's life experiences, this one I find most fascinating and amusing.....Heath in the prime of his life living the dream.... "One time when deadlines were nearing meltdown, Harvey Kurtzman called Heath in to assist in a marathon work session at the Playboy Mansion in Chicago. Russ flew in and was given a room there, and spent many days aiding Kurtzman and artist Will Elder in getting one installment done of the strip. When it was completed, Kurtzman and Elder left ... but Heath just stayed. And stayed. And stayed some more. He had a free room as well as free meals whenever he wanted them from Hef's 24-hour kitchen. He also had access to whatever young ladies were lounging about ... so he thought, 'Why leave?' He decided to live there until someone told him to get out ... and for months, no one did. Everyone just kind of assumed he belonged there. It took quite a while before someone realized he didn't and threw him and his drawing table out." Would I have done it if in his shoes? Damn right I would have! Social/Sharing |

I'm always a sucker for a good Batcave page, and this one even has the Batmobile parked inside. Also, drawn by a legend? Sweet acquisition, John!

Many thanks, Ruben! I thought the exact same thing - incredible Batcave and the coolest Batmobile, to boot! Heath didn't do much Batman work so this one is a special piece!

Fabulous page! That central panel, with the Batcave and the Batmobile, is gorgeous!
