DeMatteis Pencils Adam Hughes Inks Joe Rubinstein 1990 DC Comics Despero, on the hunt for members of the old Justice League, confronts Steel and Gypsy in this issue. On this page Despero discovers that Steel, his old enemy, is barely alive and being held in stasis… Obviously a villain like Despero freaks out, kills everyone in sight and destroys! Adam Hughes, one of the greatest comic artists working today captures the rage of Despero amazingly well. Despero has been a thorn in the JLA’s side since their very first issue in the 60’s! Adam barely does any interior pages anymore. He primarily does covers. This might be your one chance to grab an Adam Hughes page… Grab it before I change my mind… ☺ Adam Hughes is most commonly known for his stylized renderings of women; super heroines, damsels in distress, figures in fantasy. About the time Adam began making waves in art circles and his artwork really began to be noticed, the term "Good Girl Art" had been coined, and it best describes exactly what Adam does. He is considered by many to be one of a new generation of Good Girl artists inspired by Petty, Vargas and Elvgren. The way I remember it, after reading so much comedy in this series for several years, it was quite a shock seeing the horror in this issue. This page is a great example of the change! Very effective work.
