Description

This interesting story was originally published in War Battles #2 as "Kid Hero". It was later reprinted in Warfront #16 as "Ambush". Even later it was censored for post-Code publication and scheduled for Warfront #34, but even with the changes was rejected by the Comics Code. It never saw publication in it's post-Code form. Despite the frequent use of the slur "Gook" the story has a very positive message. Vic Donahue's finished artwork is top-notch, and there's something about some of the group scenes that make me suspect Warren Kremer may have penciled or done layouts for Donahue.

That mass of black ink in panel one must have been for the benefit of the Code, right? No wonder the story didn�t make it to the third round with the numbers of blue pencil markings.
