DescriptionThere's plenty of artists who've made an indelible mark on my art-loving soul. There's only one, however, who can scratch the eldritch lines to a degree where any of it rises to the quality, the sheer transcendental experience of Kyle Hotz art.If I recall correctly, I first was exposed to the perfection of the Hotz machine in the pages of Ghost Rider 2099. From there, I either tracked him down (to Nightman) or he showed up in comics I was already reading (like Rune). The physique in overdrive, the intricate detail, the fun little digs at Kelley Jones in the backgrounds, it al sang like no other art seemed able to. Cut to 2014, when there hadn't been much in comics since (I believe) The Agency & The Hood and I stumbled on his presence on Facebook. Back then, even easier than now, anyone on there would reply to IMs, and there was a slight sense of it being a more private conversation perhaps, than now, with everyone being on there and adding to the noise & ephemeral nature of that kind of conversation. On top of that (and I think this sentiment prevailed until around 2018/2019) it felt like comics had forgotten about Kyle and what an incredible output he produced. I felt (and hope, certainly) that he was happy to work on the piece I kind of cobbled together from: what do I love to see him draw/what would he rock at (trick question, the answer is: EVERYTHING) but I certainly adore it. From the composition, to the incredible detail and moody backgrounds, this piece just sings. Fun aside, at the time, I snagged a literal stack of amazing GR 2099 pages off him, which he seemed more than glad to unload, considering what he charged for them AND for the resulting shipment, this was the first time having to deal with the dastardly mob-like practices of the local customs here. That was a fun experience I could've done without, but Kyle's assistance made it less of an ordeal and saved me a good chunk of change in the process. He's an A-class dude, and I hope to meet him in person someday, just to have him crush my puny nerd-hand in a vice grip. Social/Sharing |

Creatures of the night together in a huanting spooky piece that is thick with visceral atittude and atmosphere. Very clear in its messaging and presentation of which vein it is going for.
