DescriptionBatman is startled by a hand rising up from the ground! Is it a Zombie? A Vampire? No, it's the Mole, a horrifying new villain in Gotham City. Once a convicted felon who literally dug himself out of prison, the Mole has mutated into a monster who stalks and kills humans from underground. Artist Jim Aparo brought that story to life on this striking cover to Batman #340. Aparo had a smooth, bold style that was perfect for tales of the Caped Crusader. He also had a powerful sense of composition, which he demonstrates here, using a low angle to heighten the sense of drama as Batman is surprised by the claw bursting out of the ground. IMHO, Aparo was one of the best Batman artists of the Bronze Age and I'm delighted to add such a stunning example of his work to my collection.Social/Sharing |

Oh man! I've been dying for a nice Aparo cover. This one is absolutely gorgeous. Huge Batman figure, very dramatic scene, strong Bronze cover example. Good news, it checks all my boxes. Bad news, it's in your gallery instead of mine. LOL! Congrats buddy!

Great image that does what a cover's supposed to make you wanna do - open up the book right away to see what happens inside! Nice depth with Bats vs the hand and I love all the lettering throughout. Big congrats!

A fantastic and dynamic looking Batman image, drawn from a worm's eye view to heighten the sense of drama. Wow! Congrats Bill, it's a beauty!

Batman should get that Mole checked out by a dermatologist! Very cool cover, lots of nostalgia for '80s-era Aparo!

When I grow up, I want to own a cover, any cover. Just kidding. Aparo did a nice job channeling some Neal Adams here plus, as you say, the perspective. He more than ably captures the element of surprise. Congratulations! That freight train you're driving just keeps careening down the Comic Art Highway.

If they made a Mt. Rushmore of Batman artists, I would put Aparo on it. Love this cover!

I love Aparo even with his quircky anatomical design. Among other things, he was so great drawing Brave & Bold. A great sense of action.

I really like Jim's Batman. He just may have been my first Batman artist. Which makes this a classic for me. Also, love that hand bursting out. Great addition Bill.
