DescriptionYOWZA! Wish you could see this one in person! It's jaw-dropping! The Lizard seems to leap off the page right at you. The whole cover is incredibly dramatic! You can see why Todd McFarlane became such a superstar working on Spider-Man. He rejuvenated the look and feel of the entire Spider-verse. Check out the Lizard on this cover. Has he ever looked more frightening? I think not. McFarlane took the classic villain and made him way more vicious and much more bloodthirsty. I like the way McFarlane composed the scene, too. Instead of giving us the typical rear view of Spidey (The butt-shot, I've heard it called), McFarlane posed Spidey facing forward, turning slightly as he senses the Lizard almost on top of him! You can read Spidey's reaction even though he's wearing a mask and costume. Be sure to notice all the detail McFarlane put in the scene--from the trash cans and junk-filled boxes in the alley to the brick wall and metal fire escape the Lizard dangles from. It's a wonderful cover and a great example of McFarlane's unforgettable run on Spider-Man. Thanks to Brian Chew for letting this one go and to Joe Le for the assist.Social/Sharing |

Having been fortunate to hold a few McFarlane choice Spidey pieces in my hands, I know how his inks do leap off the page with 3-D effet. This cover is truly extraordinary, as was all of Todd's work on ASM and Spider-Man. Congrats!!

Bill--- this is a wonderful example of Mcfarlane unique style. I always love how Mcfarlane hides a spider or two in all of his covers. You clearly are taking over the comic art world in such a short amount of time. Congrats again!!!! 8 )

There are few collections on this site that I enjoy watching as it's contructed brick by brick. This phenomenal collection is one of them. Of course when the builder is using bricks that are pure gold, it's hard not to be impressed. Congratulations Bill. Can hardly wait until you lay down the next one.

Oh man, we ALL remmber this one - Torment! You're spot on with your description. Really just a beautiful illustration and super effective as a cover, MAKING you want to open up the book right away to see what will no doubt be a knock down drag out battle inside between these 2 classic foes. Outstanding. Sincere congrats, Bill!

Reminds me of my pet lizard I had in college. He would get angry and hop around when I put pants and a lab jacket on him too.

Couldn't have said that better myself. This is one of those that you never forget jumping out at you from the comic stand as a kid. And actually owning it is unbelievable. It's a real treat for the fans.

I recall back in the day I heard Todd in a interview say, his Spidey run is just a run of Spidey facing monsters and this proves it. No picture could do this piece justice.
