DescriptionSCRRRAAAACCCCHHHH! I don't know about you, but I love covers where the comic characters interact with the logo (i.e. ASM 328, UXM 176, Hulk Annual #1). And here on the cover of Wonder Woman #9, Cheetah uses her claws to deface Wonder Woman's image and logo. Cheeky, but that's exactly what you expect from a character like Cheetah. As long time fans know, Cheetah is WW's oldest foe and has been plaguing her life since 1943 (See inset above). Over the years, her appearance and abilities have changed multiple times and in 1986, when George Perez and Len Wein were tasked with rebooting Wonder Woman, they reinvented Cheetah as well, giving her a new look and new backstory. IMHO, Perez and Wein's efforts were extremely successful--Wonder Woman never looked or read better than it did during their run.Social/Sharing |

Sometimes I almost feel as if Perez WW covers don't get the amount of respect and attention they deserve. Often, they can be overshadowed by his Titans and Avengers work. And as magnificent a cover run as he had on the title, all of a sudden Bolland comes along and steals his thunder. I think Perez did some of his absolute best work on WW. Thanks for posting this beauty and helping me prove my point.

Ooh, Cheetah is NOT pleased with Wonder Woman sharing this cover with her. Just love this image, Bill! You have a gorgeous Wonder Woman with a really positive, cheerful feel to her, and then above you have the sultry Cheetah striking a great pose, with fire escape.and buildings behind her. All so beautifully drawn by George Perez. Congrats!

Looks like you got a hold of the wishing stone. This Wonder Woman Perez cover is certainly one of the most memorable and one forever etched into our minds. Done right after Crisis, at a time considered to be his best time period.

George Pérez is a rare gift to the medium of comics, and this cover is a perfect example of why. His art conveys a passion and love for the medium that vastly overrides any mere craft-for-hire or grind it out for a paycheck motives. Thanks for sharing another gem in one of our hobby's best-curated collections, Bill!

Someone call George for more repairs...Cheetah did it again! I really dig how he made the wonder woman image so cheerful and positive, to really contrast with the scratch marks from a hate-filled enemy. This is an amazing George Perez cover. I love this composition. Fantastic score. Big congrats!

Oh, that's rad. Great detailing throughout and the cutting of the WW image by Cheetah - brilliant! Always love the way Perez renders Diana's curly hair. Also dig that she's smiling here...got a feeling it won't be for long! Congrats!
