DescriptionJack Kirby never made a quiet entrance — he kicked the door clean off its hinges. This Sandman title page drops you straight into a dream-world brawl where Sandman is rescuing Santa Claus from furious “Seal Men.” Extra moons hang in the sky, strange shapes float overhead, and everything feels joyfully unhinged. It’s classic DC Kirby: big action, bold ideas, and a cheerful disregard for logic. Dreams don’t have to make sense — they just have to commit. Mike Royer’s bold inks keep the chaos crisp and readable. The really wild part comes behind the scenes. Finished in 1975, the story was cancelled, revived, cancelled again, and finally rescued in a 1981 Christmas digest. It arrived late — but Kirby pages age better than publishing plans. Even Santa would agree. Happy Holidays! Social/Sharing |

"Dreams don’t have to make sense — they just have to commit." Perfect perspective for Kirby's wild ride at DC in the 70s. So glad you posted this incredible art.

Wow, I never knew that the Seal Men had once gone to war against Santa Claus!

A timeless Christmas Classic! I mean, how can you keep Kirby and Royer down? DC knew they better use this "To save Christmas" story before Ernest, Elmo, and Kirk Cameron would do it in the decades to come.

No idea what is going on.. but for some reason makes me think of that 60s film Santa Clause vs the Martians. If they only understood Christmas. Congrats!
