DescriptionWelcome new client Dwayne Dush to the Almond Commission Gallery! He had his own CAF gallery and if you check out his themed rooms you'd find his "Wrightson + INKER" option where I was added to it amongst 13 of my peers (to date). He states "I have see a couple sites where a common work in pencil was given to different inkers. It always blows me away to see how different inkers apply their style to a common image. As a long time fan and collector, it's fascinating for me to to see and learn about the various styles and skills."If you visit my entry in that gallery Dwayne presents a Q&A with everyone, myself in this case, natch, about the work process: https://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1896935 Inking a Wrightson prelim is challenging, even though it is my second time doing so, and an honor. There is enough info in there like breakdown pencils so one needs to pull out the finishing skills to make it work. Being familiar with Bernie's ink work is a big help, not because many of us can simulate that, but you get a clearer vision of where he might go with his cues. My goals for this, besides not sucking, was to capture the great depth in the space, the rich textures and have everything read with clarity. Some of my peers better pulled off some elements better than I did but I'm proud of how I held up in other areas in comparison. I found many versions to have much lighter, overall lines, possibly because these are wispy spirits, not flesh & blood bodies, whereas my lines are heavier than many. Which is interesting because the first years of my linework were not bold enough. This is only my 2nd JLA team commission (I only inked Green Lantern on that Jose Luis JLA jam ink job). This was completed February 4, 2023. Social/Sharing |
