DescriptionHere is a page from the fourth volume of what many people consider Moebius's opus, the Incal. I think it was a fantastic comic and Jodorowsky and Moebius had synergy but from an artistic point of view, I prefer some of his earlier works.I owned this page many years ago. I bought it from a Paris based art dealer in the very early 2000's. It was to be my Moebius example and I was very happy with it. Along came a well known UK collector who decided he wanted to own it. I wasn't selling because by that time the market had moved and I figured i'd never pay what current pages were selling for so if I sold I would be without a Moebius page. I did tell him that if he found me a Moebius page I liked better, we could trade. After about a dozen attempts, I liked the offering and the deal was done. That page still sits in my Moebius gallery. Since this went to London all those years ago it popped up for sale and went through auction at least once before ending up on Albert's well. I saw it OAX and felt that I'd like to own it again. A bit of destiny which is one of the major themes in Incal. This page became the impetus and part of a later trade deal that also saw the JLA cover I posted a few days come to stay with me. On this particular page the young lady is being held hostage by those trying to blackmail her father. They cryofreeze her and to prove what might happen they snap off a finger. The ploy worked. From a design and content point of view I liked that page and panel layouts. The background textures in the panels give it a very full look to the overall page and make for a bit of op art like design. In color it looks great too. Social/Sharing |

A sci-fi and art deco designed page of excellence! Lots of comics illustrators and filmmakers took inspiration from this aesthetic that is unwavering from start to finish.

This is an exceptional example of Moebius’ artistry, and it’s fascinating to hear about its journey through your collection. The layout and design truly stand out here. I'm not sure if we're both referring to the same thing, but there appears to be an op-art quality in the intricate background textures that enhances the depth of the page, adding a surreal, almost hypnotic feel to the art. Moebius’ fluid linework and storytelling is as precise as ever, drawing the eye seamlessly across the page. I think it's pretty clear to see why this piece has had such an impact on you over the years. Congrats on getting it back after such along time away!

Impressive! The detailed linework conveys a sense of calm and light, nicely contradicting the action. A most surreal page...

It is a visual treat. The characters are clean and distinctive, while the design elements are busy, and everything just meshes perfectly.

It's a measure of Moebius's genius that six people can intelligently debate which of his works is his magnum opus, and all have six different choices. I think L'Incal is his long-form science fiction masterpiece, though parts of it drift, and he is less visually inventive when he's not writing his own material. The Airtight Garage is probably my choice, along with Arcach, but some of his shorter works (Detour, Is Man Good, The Long Tomorrow) are epic, if more concentrated, accomplishments. The World of Edena is amazing, though perhaps too derivative of some of his earlier work. And all of that is leaving aside his work as Jean Giraud and Gir.
