Description1947-2022, 75 years anniversaryScrooge McDuck, a Scottish-American anthropomorphic Pekin duck created by Carl Barks for the Disney comic books, first appeared in the story "Christmas on Bear Mountain", published in December of 1947 (Four Color #178). Living in Duckburg, Calisota, in his own "Money Bin" placed on Killmule hill, he's Donald Duck's maternal uncle, as well as Huey's, Dewey's, and Louie's grand-uncle. The richest duck in the world, he was initially characterized as a greedy miser and antihero, but in later appearances he has often been portrayed as a thrifty hero, adventurer and explorer. He's, without a doubt, my favourite Disney character. My ideal Scrooge McDuck story would be written by Carl Barks and illustrated by one of the Italian Disney artists I love! *** Zerocalcare (Michele Rech) is probably the cartoonist phenomenon of the last 10 years here in Italy... you may be not familiar with his work if you're not italian, but you can surely check his 2021 series on Netflix, Tear Along the Dotted Line, a true gem, that can give you a glimpse if the artist's style and sensibility. *** Lucca 2022 I was lucky enough to get a sketch from Zerocalcare in one of his sketch sessions at the Con (it was possible to get an electronic ticket a few days before the Con, needless to say they were sold out in less than 2 minutes). About the subject of the sketch, I was thinking that it's the 75th Scrooge McDuck's anniversary this year and I know Zerocalcare already did a Donald Duck illustration a few years ago for Topolino, so I proposed him to sketch the old Scrooge, if he felt like it... he was happy to do it as long as I accepted whatever the result, since it turns out that was the very first time someone asked him this character and he was going to do it without any reference. I didn't think it twice. Here's the sketch, I find it simply marvelous. I got many other pieces at the Con, covers and illustrations and pages that required the artists definitely more work and time than this sketch, some gorgeous pieces that I'll post in the near future, nevertheless this is special. Could have closed my Lucca Comic Con after this and would have been way more than happy. Huge thanks to Zero!!! Paper size: 24 x 33 cm Social/Sharing |

He captured the very essence of that old grumpy duck Scrooge originally was. Fantastic!
