DescriptionI absolutely loved Alan Davis's runs on Excalibur and in particular his take on Phoenix. The character was only partially developed over in Uncanny, but in Excalibur she blossomed into a self confident young hero with stunning visuals.I liked the fact that Davis did not just mimick the Phoenix effect created by Cockrum and Byrne, but developed his own take. This is a re-imaginng of the iconic pin up from Excalibur 1. I love how Phoenix's wings become extensions of Rachel's arms and the trail of her trajectory. Majestic! Social/Sharing |

Great homage to that original image that's seared into my brain, as well as an awesome piece of art in its own right! Congrats!

I have to agree with you and your description of this piece. With all due respect to Byrne, I do think Davis took this character to another level. I think you can tell from just the way he drew her, how important the character was to him. Anyway, congratulations on a fantastic Davis piece. Happy new year my friend.

Superb piece! Phoenix shines! I love her wings!!! Alan Davis soon will occupy the place that he deserves in the XMen run Throne.

You can truly believe she's in harmony with the cosmos with how there is a nautral flow through the composition.

Extraordinary Phoenix image! Alan Davis is an amazing artist and he really shows his talent in this piece. I love the way Phoenix reaches out to form wings from her power. The rich black of outer space really helps push her towads, and the distant earth and moon tell us how far she's travelled. Just a classic image of the Phoenix!
