DescriptionI had a great 9x12 pencilled piece from Ringo, my all-time favorite comic artist, and I wanted to have it inked… but the thin sketchbook paper and the 9x12 size didn’t do the piece justice. I commissioned the great Mark Morales to ink it on an 11x17 board and add some background elements- the clouds, the building silhouettes, and the moon- and I couldn’t be happier with the result. Mark was a dream to work with, reining in some of my poor art direction and landing the plane beautifully.I think this would make an amazing cover to any Black Cat-centric book, or an ASM issue featuring Felicia. I’ll probably get a colorist to do a digital mock-up of it, so I have a colored copy for myself to display next to the inks, maybe with trade dress added. Social/Sharing |

Mark did a great job! Always love seeing Wieringo's work inked. And this Felicia just makes you smile, like a lot of Mike's work :) Congrats!

Great idea getting Mark to ink it! (though I would have thought you'd pick Mike's long-time inker Karl Kesel) He did a great job with the inks, and they really show off the shiny nature of Felicia's suit. Congrats!

I considered a few of Mike's past collaborators - I love Rob Stull's work over Mike's pencils, Richard Case, and Kesel... but I think Mark is one of the best in the business and I know his fondness for Mike's work, so I went that way. Very happy with the result, and maybe I'll have another of Mike's former inkers tackle one of my other pencil pieces from him!

Not a bad call going with Mark at all! And that would be a fun project to have his different collaborators ink different pencil pieces- you could even make a cover series out of it!

Flawless. You can follow Morales' long brush strokes applied and the tight areas around the signature to bring out the look of classic inked published Weiringo!
